If it was just an eq, or compressor plugin, you can live with the fact if one part of a signal chain crashes and you need to re-patch a new eq or compressor. There is no way in the world I have faith in it to continue working and remain solid and compatible with future updates. This caused much grief with clients and for me having to start the whole mix again from scratch for many songs which needed more tweaking and which weren't finalised. The new updated versions are not compatible with previous versions and all signal chains and settings are completely lost.
And you guessed it, when loading all those songs mixed with VMR On each channel processing the complete signal chain.the new version of VMR was not working on the channels which had VMR. None of the slate updated versions are compatible with previous versions of the same plugin. After downloading an update from slate of the latest versions of these plugins, thankfully it stopped the crashes, however, a big problem occurred.
You better be sure that the plugin is damn stable.Īfter doing several mixes of several songs for several clients with VMR featured on most channels for the whole signal chain for busses, tracks, channels etc, then after some weeks VMR for some reason stopped working and caused crashes and wouldn't allow any song to load which featured VMR or VTM. When you rely on one plugin to process everything in your mix, from eq, compression, to virtual consoles. Virtual Mix Rack is an amazing piece of plugin, what could be better than having your whole signal chain for every channel in the convenience of the one plugin with quality modules fulfilling the need of every mixer? This is where the problem is.
However, in my experience, the products are too buggy for professional production and have caused more headache than what it's worth.not to mentions weeks of work and $$$$ lost. I own every Slate plugin and really think that Slate Digital is doing an amazing job with some fine innovative plugins.
